CAIHS Monday Morning Message

November 9, 2020

A Message from Mr. Maloney

Good Morning CAIHS Families,

Last night it was announced that students will not be returning to school this week. Students will remain virtual for the week. At this time we are on schedule for the students to return next Monday. I will send out a new schedule this week that will allow you to plan for the upcoming weeks. With that being said, we were super excited to have the students back in the building! With the way 2020 has been going I have learned that I must be more flexible than ever. I know that this is frustrating and we apologize for the inconvenience but we will continue to move forward.

Sincerely,

Mr. Maloney

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast and Lunch will be served each day. Because we are a Title One School, everyone can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. Breakfast will be picked up in front of the cafeteria and students will take the breakfast to their first period class. Students will eat lunch in the cafeteria and they will be socially distanced as they eat. Each table has dividers so the students can eat safely. Below is a picture of the dividers.

The winning homeroom will receive a breakfast party! In addition, the winning homeroom will get to choose between the Men and the Women administrators to perform a Tik Tok dance in cheerleader garb that will streamed for the entire school to watch.

All food collected will go to the Chester County Food Bank. The collection starts on Monday November 9th and it will run to November 23rd. The Food Bank is looking for Stuffing, Canned Soups, Baby Foods, Boxed Pastas, Instant Potatoes, String Beans, Peas, Corn, Cranberry Sauce, Canned Sweet Potatoes, Canned Fruit Cocktail and Cookies.

Wellness Checks and Safety Precautions

Who will administer temperature checks?

Parents will be required to check their child prior to sending the child to school. All staff should be checking their temperature prior to leaving for work.

What personal protective equipment will be provided to students and teachers?

Students and teachers should bring their own mask each day, along with backups. However, wipes, hand sanitizer, and extra masks will be available and located in all classes. Plexiglass dividers will be provided for office areas, school psychologists and counselors.

Will there be testing given to those with symptoms? Per the safety plan that was communicated to the community and staff several months ago, if a child has symptoms, parents should not send them to school. Should symptoms develop at school the student will be sent home and will need to quarantine and follow the direction of the Chester County Department of Health. The School District will not administer COVID-19 tests at this time.

What happens if a child or staff member begins showing COVID-like symptoms at school?

The Chester County Health Department has created a flow-chart to determine response if a student or staff member begins showing COVID-like symptoms while in the building, and nurses have all been trained to recognize the symptoms. If the positive test is discovered when the person is in school, nurses/administrators will temporarily isolate the individual and any suspected close contacts. The Chester County Health Department will directly contact anyone who is considered a “close contact” to a suspected positive case to provide “Close contact” refers to being within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes (cumulative), regardless of masking. Custodians will be immediately notified, and any affected areas will be cleaned following appropriate protocols.

Will you close the district again if COVID numbers in Chester County increase?

Yes. If the Incidence Rate per 100,000 or the PCR Test Positivity enter the “Very High” category as defined by the Chester County Health Department, the district will return to a virtual instructional model. Flu Vaccination

The #1 way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated each year. The Chester County Health Department will hold their annual Flu Vaccine Clinic on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Coatesville Area Senior High School gymnasium. The clinic will be open to students, school district personnel and community members from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. To register and access consent forms, please click here. Please complete and bring the "Informed Consent" form with you to your appointment.
